Mental Health Treatment Costs, Insurance & Billing
Understanding the cost of mental health treatments shouldn't be overwhelming. Whether you're considering TMS, ketamine therapy, counseling, or one of our specialized treatment programs, we believe in transparency, clear insurance information, and helping every patient understand their options before beginning care.
OUR APPROACH TO BILLING
Mental Health Treatment
Without Barriers
We understand that investing in your mental health is a significant decision. While some services, such as standard TMS therapy, may be covered by insurance, many of our specialized treatments are offered as self-pay.
This allows us to focus on providing individualized care, rather than limiting treatments based on insurance requirements.
For patients, this means no diagnosis or referrals needed, fewer delays, more flexibility, and more time to simply focus on healing.

INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENTS
Which Mental Health Treatments Are Covered By Insurance?
Insurance coverage varies by plan.
Here's what you need to know when receiving care at North Idaho Ketamine & TMS:
Standard TMS Therapy
Many commercial insurance plans cover standard TMS therapy for patients who meet medical necessity requirements.
Our team will verify your benefits, obtain any required prior authorizations, and explain any expected costs if applicable before treatment begins.
IV Ketamine Therapy
IV Ketamine therapy is currently not covered by insurance and is offered as a self-pay service.
We believe patients should have access to innovative care, and we're committed to helping you understand your options.
If you are a veteran or first-responder, contact our team for more information on coverage options.
One-Day TMS
& Accelerated TMS
Due to one-day and accelerated TMS being newer protocols, insurance has not offered coverage at this time, and these treatments are considered self-pay services. This does allow for flexibility, no wait time, and less restrictions when seeking treatment.
Integrative Wellness Counseling
Counseling services are offered as self-pay. While offering self-pay allows for personalized care without restrictions, we're committed to making treatment as accessible as possible. If cost is a concern, we encourage you to talk with our team. We're happy to discuss your situation and explore available options with you.
Evaluations and Check-Ins
Initial evaluations and check-ins throughout treatment can be covered by insurances depending on the plan and benefits. These appointments allow our provider to determine if/what treatment is right for you, and continue a collaborative effort throughout treatment to adjust or pivot when needed.

A COMMON QUESTION - AND A VALID ONE
Why Are Ketamine Treatments Not Covered by Insurance?
Although Ketamine is FDA-approved as an anesthetic, it is considered
off-label and not currently covered as an IV treatment for mental health conditions. Ketamine therapy has been heavily researched with supporting evidence for effectiveness when treating treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, PTSD, chronic pain, and other mental health conditions.
Insurance companies determine coverage based on their own policies, not whether a treatment may be beneficial for an individual patient. Because of this, IV ketamine is offered under medical guidance as a self-pay service, even while insurance has not yet caught up with the science.
We understand there's a significant gap between mental health and finding affordable treatments, restrictions regarding insurance, and the financial hardships many are facing. We hope to continue to work behind the scenes to make treatments more accessible and stay up to date with the latest news regarding coverage in the future.
